The International Bluegrass Music Museums annual bluegrass music festival entitled River of Music Party's aka ROMP 09 will kick off on Wednesday June 24th and last through Saturday June 27th. There will be a ROMP 09 kickoff party on Wednesday June 24th which is being sponsored by Owensboro's own Terry Woodward of Wax-Works Video in celebration of their 60th anniversary. The party begins on Wednesday night at 7:00PM at the Riverpark center with special guests Marty Stuart, Del McCoury and Mike Snider. Tickets for this terrific opening night concert range from $10.00, $20.00 & $50.00. 100% of each ticket will benefit the museum.
The next day the River of Music Party begins as ROMP 09's jamming bluegrass music festival celebrating the next three days of bluegrass music featuring legendary performances by JD Crowe and The New South, Bobby Osborne and the Rocky Top Express, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and many more. Also featuring Dan Tyminski known for his work with Alison Krauss and Union Station and as O Brother, Where Art Thou's "Man of Constant Sorrow".
There is a lot happening at ROMP 09 with 47 Bands plus 60 to 80 legendary musicians, who are coming to the Pioneers of Bluegrass Gathering and Legends Concert happening Thursday night June 25th at the Riverpark center in Owensboro, Ky. This will be a spectacular historic event honoring the Pioneers of Bluegrass. Ronnie Reno, a legend himself, will be Master of Ceremonies. These artists are world-renowned as aœbluegrass musicain's first generation, many played in Bill Monroe's band, The Bluegrass Boys. Others formed their own groups and took the music he created - Kentucky's official state music - to cities, towns & countries far and wide. They have grown a bluegrass fan base in 75 nations. People from all over the world will be here to celebrate this occasion. Two of these international bluegrass bands will be performing at ROMP 09, the Ozaki Brothers from Japan & Bluegrass Parkway from Australia.
Friday June 26th and Saturday June 27th the festival will be held outdoors at the Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro KY, where most of the bands will be playing. To add to all the excitement there will be artists hosting a variety of workshops. Plus a trade show with many instrument and arts & crafts vendors. Also there will be a variety of concessions, free tent camping and free parking. Bring a blanket or chair, sunscreen & water, coolers and picnics are allowed. There will be regular shuttle service from 9AM – 11PM between Park and Museum. Don't miss this bluegrass event, fun for all ages!
